Matt Rees is an award-winning crime novelist who lives in Jerusalem. The French magazine L’Express called him “the Dashiell Hammett of Palestine.” As a journalist, Rees covered the Middle East for over a decade. Yasser Arafat once tried to have him arrested, but Matt eluded him to write his novels. He was born in Newport, Wales, and studied at Oxford University and the University of Maryland. He published a nonfiction account of Israeli and Palestinian society called Cain’s Field: Faith, Fratricide, and Fear in the Middle East in 2004 (Free Press). He won the prestigious Crime Writers Association John Creasey New Blood Dagger in 2008. He has written six crime novels which have been sold to leading publishers in 24 countries. His latest novels are fictionalized unravelings of real historical mysteries, Mozart’s Last Aria and A Name in Blood, which is about the death of Caravaggio. His website is mattrees.net.
