Heaven Lake Press is proud to present In His Majesty’s Footsteps: A Personal Memoir on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty the King’s 80th Birthday Anniversary. Originally written in Thai by former Chief of Royal Court Police, Police General Vasit Dejkunjorn, In His Majesty’s Footsteps is the first personal chronicle in the English language detailing the life and work of the world’s longest reigning monarch King Bhumibol Adulyadej during the politically turbulent period of the late1960s and the 1970s.

In His Majesty’s Footsteps shows a rare, first-hand insight into how the Thai king faced the challenges of the time—relentless communist insurgencies, frequent military coups and protracted political turmoil. The book vividly portrays what went on inside the palace as these numerous events unfolded and how the king and the royal family touched the hearts of the Thai people by their extraordinary dedication to their subjects.

The book gives an eyewitness account of the Thai history in the making through the interactions of the three pillars of the Thai nationhood: Nation, Religion and King—showing how King Bhumibol has been the source of strength and stability to his people and has earned his renown as the most revered king in the modern world.

“Dejkunjorn writes in a charming manner (not lost in this May 06 translation) both of his own astounding career and of the royal household he has devoted much of his life to protecting and being guided by . . . . We are treated to a tale of an incredibly talented king who kept in constant touch with the changing world around him. This is a monarch whose quick learning abilities and endless fascination for aspects of life as diverse as reassembling broken M-16 rifles for the Thai army, amateur radio broadcasting (including fixing and building receivers) and playing the sax in a jazz band from dusk to dawn.”
